JOHNNY CASH – FEBRUARY 26, 1932

Born on this day in Kingsland, Arkansas, Johnny Cash was a legendary US country singer and songwriter, widely regarded as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. While he is best known as a country icon, his music also encompassed rock and roll, rockabilly, blues, folk, and gospel. This versatility earned him the rare distinction of being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. In the later years of his career, Cash covered songs by several late 20th-century rock artists, most notably “Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails. He passed away from respiratory failure on September 12, 2003, at the age of 71.
